VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED!
Are you looking for a way to complete your 10 hours of volunteer
time? Here
are a few ideas. Let the Club know if you can help.
1. PLUMBING!
The shower down at the boathouse is broken. One of the
copper supply lines is split and the shower head should be re-oriented
to
spray away from the clothing bin. If you understand what might be
involved
with this activity and have the tools (we will supply materials), then
this
job is for you. Please e-mail at julia.bourque@sympatico.ca
2. PADDLES
UP!
Let's see, double tape means single blade and single tape
means wide blade and HEY! who else is confused by this system?... I
know
I'm not alone. We need someone to re-do the tape on the canoe
paddles.
This time let's put a single band of tape on the single blades, and a
double
band of tape on the double blades. We will supply the tape and
solvent for
removing glue residue. E-mail julia.bourque@sympatico.ca
3. BUNS!
Our brand new canoe buns are getting pretty skanky. Could you
devise a way to store them in the barn that might allow them to
dry out
between practices? We're open to suggestions...come on all you
engineers...I know there are lots of you. e-mail julia.bourque@sympatico.ca
4. WATER AT REGATTAS:
As you have noticed, many of the regatta sites have
no running water/potable water available. We have a huge water
cooler that
could filled with water or gator aid and carted to the variious
regatta's.
Is there anyone who might want to manage this vital amenity? Let
me know.

5. CLEAN OUT THE CLOTHES BIN
Man, does it stink! It would be a great help
if one, two or more people could empty out the lost and found bin
(under the
outdoor shower, of course), take these clothes, towels, things home and
wash
them....When you have finished, please bring them to the CCA send off
on
Tuesday evening, August 15th. Let me know! julia.bourque@sympatico.ca
6. 200 CLUB!
It's our biggest fund raiser of the year - it's loads of
fun....it requires lots of good humoured help. If you are
available before
hand to sell tickets or solicit silent auction items, etc. or the day of
to
decorate, set-up the band, clean-up.....CALL PHYLLIS BAIN! That's
right -
Phyllis is Ross, Christine, Mark and Victoria's Mom....she needs HELP!

7. BUILD A DOCK!
This could be your chance to use power tools. We want to
build another dock for our dragon boat activities. Ray Knight
built the
other docks - and he is prepared to supervise the building of a new
dock -YIPPEE!
I'm not sure when this activity will happen - you need to e-mail Grudy
Delegrudev and get your name on the Dock building committee. grudy@eol.ca
If you have any suggestions for volunteer activities... E-MAIL! julia.bourque@sympatico.ca
The Club is a
non-profit organization
whose expenses are considerably higher than Club registration fees.
Fundraising
activities are required to maintain operations and to provide
professionally
coached programs and up-to-date competitive equipment. In order for the
success
of the Club to continue, involvement by parents and paddlers is
essential
and is a condition of membership. Commitment to assist and participate
in
a fundraising event will be requested from each paddler family upon
registration.
Social/fundraising events take place throughout the year starting with the Hair of the Dog Run on January 1. Our major fundraiser – the 200 Club Elimination Draw is held in late spring or early summer. Glenn Miller dances; BBQs; a CCA send-off will also continue. We welcome new ideas for other events. Watch the newsletters for up-to-date information.
Again this year the Club is requesting that each paddler family commit to officiate at one regatta during the season. Instruction will be provided before the start of the season and posts assigned according to experience. The volunteer base of officials is under serious stress and the Board feels the obligation to assist. Without regatta officials, there would be no regatta. We are hopeful you will understand and participate.
